Embrace series

2023

The Embrace series explores the journey of emotional hardship. Each sculpture represents a stage in healing from a loss.

The first sculpture, "Embrace of the Inner Tempest," captures the initial stage of that healing.  (currently displayed in the Hive Shrewsbury)

Its maternal essence invites contemplation, featuring a hollow space reminiscent of a nurturing cradle where a child would seek solace. This symbolic representation represents the inner child within ourselves, yearning for healing amidst struggles of grief, and depression. The figure's body, burdened by the weight of its past, gracefully collapses upon itself, embodying the weight of these tribulations. However, within the embrace, there lies a glimmer of hope—a sign of a new beginning. It symbolises the commencement of embracing the inner child, embarking on a path to recovery.

In the subsequent sculpture, "Warrior's Embrace," the healing journey progresses to the next stage. Here, a resolute and powerful warrior figure emerges. Chiseled jawline and broad shoulders exude strength, and confidence. Yet, the arms remain tenderly wrapped around the figure, symbolising the continuation of self-care and protection. Though the presence of the hollow is still perceptible, it no longer bears the weight of deep wounds. The warrior stands as a guardian, nurturing the inner self and instilling resilience.  (this sculpture is currently being displayed in the Shrewsbury Museum)

Finally, we encounter the culmination of healing and empowerment in the third sculpture ‘Concordant Embrace.’ (currently being displayed at The Hive Shrewsbury) Liberated from emotional burdens, the figure radiates strength and unity in form. With a warrior's robust physique, the sculpture embodies a profound sense of self-assurance. The arms, still tenderly embracing, reflect a compassionate connection with oneself. Angular facial features evoke determination and purpose. This stage signifies a transformative transition towards moving forward, having healed, and gazing confidently into the future.

Sphinx

(2020-22)

Drawing inspiration from the iconic Sphinx that once guarded the ancient pyramids, this contemporary sculpture assumes the role of a steadfast protector of the sacred feminine. With a graceful demeanor, she embodies and safeguards the profound qualities of female power, strength, and sexuality, while acknowledging the vulnerabilities, insecurities, and conflicts that reside within. Serene and commanding, her presence demands reverence and captures attention. Notice the elongated, tail-like appendage, reminiscent of a poised scorpion, subtly alluding to her capacity to ward off potential threats.

Touch Me
